The beauty of Willsboro Bay, perhaps the best kept secret on either side of Lake
Champlain, is right at your door. A wall of windows offers spectacular views of the water, the pristine western shore with its palisades, and 120 feet of your own private beach. The house and grounds offer charm, amenities, comfort, grand spaces for gathering and intimate spaces for relaxing and rejuvenating.
This is a uniquely beautiful, comfortable lake house with grand and intimate spaces; perfect for family vacations, romantic getaways, or to reconnect with nature. Offering all of the amenities you desire with a touch of charm and elegance yet with the warmth and feel of a traditional Adirondack location.
Sun lovers will enjoy the west facing wall of windows that run the entire length of the house. From there you step out onto the new, spacious deck with its plentiful, inviting wicker seating, large umbrellas and large outdoor dining table seating 8. There is a wide staircase next to the dining area from the deck down to the lawn, the natural, green shoreline and the private sandy beach. The views of sun, water, trees, the little bite-sized meadow nestled near the shore, birds, boats, the fjord-like far shore across the bay and of course the sunsets are all spectacular whether from inside either of the two great rooms facing the water or from the deck. Or from the ring of chairs at the fire pit near the water. You can also catch sunrise looking west(!) when it’s reddish light is reflected off the stone and forest across the bay.
Breezes are the norm here and a gentle breeze is enough to offer the lake's version of a light surf. Other sounds you are likely to hear are a plethora of song birds, loons and other water birds, sea gulls, the breeze in the trees and on occasion a boat or even a train in the distance running a mile away across the bay.
As mentioned above, there is a fire pit near the waterfront where you can build a fire to enjoy for a night by the water. The dock is yet another way to enjoy the waterfront.
But the waterfront is not the only attraction to this wonderful spot. The deck outside the entry, roadside door (the "front" locally refers to the waterside) is a special place to catch the sunrise with a coffee and muffin, or book or friend. And with its view of the new gardens (which will be expanding throughout the property over the next year) it is also a spot for stepping away from the crowd or seeking coolness from the afternoon sun.
Enjoy two private master suites, making this property an ideal shared vacation site. A third bedroom offers a queen bed on a cool, shaded portion of the house and distance from the other bedrooms. Downstairs a fourth bedroom includes two extra long twins that may be moved together to form a full King sized bed. Mirroring the first floor this bedroom offers its own wall of windows and sliding glass door with views of the lawn and waterfront. And right outside your door is your own little seating area.
Each bedroom has its own attractions and privacy and are fitted with new premium bedding and mattresses. Each bedroom has its own AC/heat so each can be maintained to suite every guest.
Numerous windows, skylights and ceiling fans throughout the house make the most of lake breezes.
Cooks are treated to the full advantages of the house and views whether at the well-stocked granite-countered kitchen with its state of the art electric stove/oven or the state-of-the-art barbecue on the deck. A dish washer, two refrigerators (one in the kitchen, the other in the basement offering extra storage if needed), microwave oven and special toaster suitable for even larger rustic bread slices and a wide assortment of cookware and dinnerware give you everything you need in a well appointed kitchen. In the kitchen, behind the counter is also a great place to enjoy an ice cold drink as you are facing that great view of the windows, deck and waterfront. And of course the well sized, tiger maple dining table and fireplace seating allow diners and cook to interact until the cook is ready to join. There is also an HD TV over the fireplace and visible throughout the room.
Three full bathrooms and a washer and dryer add convenience. There is plenty of space for socializing, dining, and relaxing. Fed via Dish network there are three smart TVs, one in the grand room with the kitchen and dining table, one downstairs in a cool, cozy setting and one in the first floor master suite. High-speed internet and Wi Fi offer entertainment and connectivity with the outside world - even outside on the two decks. Three gas fireplaces add a perfect touch for cozy or romantic evenings during cooler weather. Unique furnishings like the oversized leather sofa, the wide arm chair and the Scandinavian sled converted to coffee table in the Music Room (living room) provide both charm and comfort.
Enjoy swimming, kayaking, and boating, with beach, dock and mooring. There is quite a bit of fishing on the lake. Or try any of the lawn games we have: corn hole, badminton, crocket, bacci. Inside we have books, games, chess, etc.
And if you can pull yourself away from this beautiful spot there are many places to enjoy diverse activities from hiking and biking to antiquing and live music to restaurants and various outdoor events. There is even a 9 hole golf course on The Point only a couple of miles from the house. Check their schedules before making plans to dine at any of the restaurants in the area. Alternatives such as The Museum of the Underground Railroad are also located in the area. And of course you are a ferry ride from the charming town of Burlington, VT and 90 miles from the picturesque city of Montreal (check to see if you will need your passports if driving to Montreal or Quebec).
Wildlife is everywhere. Hummingbirds frequent the front garden and feeders along with cardinals, gold finches, chickadees, blue jays, woodpeckers, to name a few. The American bald eagle, more often seen in the cooler and colder seasons, and osprey are a frequent visitors. Fish abound as do all sorts of water birds: loons, several kinds of duck, goose, cormorants, sea gulls, king fishers, heron. The area is home to quite a lot of deer and wild turkeys. We have even seen a mink run along our shores.
Enjoy a walk or ride your bike down the miles of flat, quiet road that run the length of the bay out to the point where a public path through shade trees brings you out to the mouth of the bay and the grandeur of the great lake with its vista across towards Burlington and the Green Mountains of Vermont. Looking north from the point the lake disappears over the horizon (it is that big). Or visit one of the two marinas that lay nearby along the road, one slightly up the bay the other slightly down the bay. Each have their own restaurants. The owners of Indian Bay Marina and the restaurant there are friends. The other, safe Harbor, has a more upscale restaurant.
A few short miles from the house are the amenities of Willsboro which include Turtle Island Cafe - a wonderful little restaurant, Ethel's Dew Drop Inn - a local ice cream and road side food stand, and the public library. Only a few more minutes by car is the quaint town of Essex, NY where there are shops, restaurants, an ice cream shop, an inn and one of the three ferries on the lake that can take you and your car across to Vermont and back. The Essex Inn has a very nice restaurant. Several minutes drive beyond Essex is the Dogwood Bakery in Wadhams which boasts wonderful breads and once a week some of the best pizza on the entire lake.
Other especially worthwhile destinations include the huge Adirondack State Park (we are actually inside the area) and all it has to offer, spectacular Ausable Chasm and Lake Placid in NY while on the Vermont side there are the islands of North and South Hero, the towns of Charlotte and Shelburne and the charming city of Burlington with all its activity, shops and restaurants. Surprising close to this natural paradise is the cosmopolitan city and cultural center of Montreal only about 90 miles away.
With all the wonderful and diverse options you still may never want to leave home; it is that nice.

Summary: The waterfront is beautiful, loved the availability of kayaks, paddle board and dock. Russ was incredibly responsive to any and all inquiry. We had a lot of rain which rose the water level; Russ made sure the dock was moved so it would remain usable for our stay. Loved the new deck with ample seating and three huge umbrellas for shade. Beds were comfortable!
