Beautiful oceanfront home filled with light on a private island a beautiful five minute boat ride from Swartz Bay, 15 min to YYJ airport. With stunning views of Portland, Pender and Salt Spring Islands, you can gaze out the floor to ceiling windows from anywhere in the house and watch a real life nature channel as whales swim past your private pier and eagles soar overhead. The home features two spacious bedrooms (master with a very comfortable king size canopy bed made up with Restoration Hardware Belgian Linen and stunning sunrise views from bed, and a secondary bedroom with a queen size bed and forest views), two bathrooms (one with a clawfoot tub for soaking and the other with a shower), and a home gym complete with squat rack, dumbells, air bike, bands, and a TRX system; everything you need to stay fit with inspiring views. A spacious and welcoming kitchen features triple ovens, a massive live edge island with six stools, a wood stove to keep you cozy, and a large dining table that seats six. A Rancilio Silva espresso machine and Sette 270 grinder set you up for happy mornings sipping an americano or latte in the light filled living room, listening to a record from the vast collection, or reading from the library of books, surrounded by an indoor jungle of plants. This is a well-loved and carefully curated family home, not a soulless purpose-built rental, and the island is a magical place that functions much like an extended family that very few are fortunate enough to visit (we appreciate the respect shown to our home, our neighbours, and our island community that we know you will feel in return!).
Complete your dream island retreat with daily walks throughout the 260-hectares of private trails in the centre of the island, or do a loop on the private car-free road in your own golf cart. The island is a friendly and safe place and the forest is free from any animals that can harm you (but you will occasionally spot black tail deer, barred owls, plenty of eagles, and countless sea creatures!). Wander down to the ocean side from the immaculately landscaped tiered yard to explore the tide pools before you settle into a Muskoka chair in front of the firepit with a glass of something delicious as you watch the sun set over the ocean. Drop the crab trap off the end of the dock to catch fresh rock crab for dinner or forage fresh oysters from the beach out front.
Don't forget to visit the organic farm across the road from the house on Saturday mornings at 9am for farm fresh eggs, vegetables from the green house, and homemade hearty farm bread.
Dogs are welcome on the property and the island is dog heaven! So many smells and trails to run unencumbered. The house can happily be set up with multiple dog beds and food and water bowls for your furry friend. We kindly ask that dogs NOT be allowed on the furniture and have baby gates that can be used as needed to manage dogs explorations. A fenced front (ocean side) yard is a safe place for pups to explore outside and the island is very dog friendly.
*******Please note: this is on a private, boat-access only island, with no cars. The local shuttle (for humans and dogs are welcome!) runs between the island and Swartz Bay (where you will park your car in a private, locked and secure compound) on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays on the following schedule: departing Swartz Bay Tuesday and Friday at 9:10am, 12:10pm, and 4:10pm and Sunday at 3:40pm and departing Piers Tuesday and Friday at 9:30am, 12:30pm, and 4:30pm and Sunday at 4:00pm. Shuttle passes are $220 for 10 x one-way fare. Private water taxi available to the private dock at the house for $100 each direction for up to 6 passengers (after dark +$20).
The quaint town of Sidney-by-the-sea is a short five minute drive off the 5 minute shuttle ride landing you at the grocery store, local coffee shops and restaurants, and wonderful local shops within 10 minutes! If you're a book lover, Sidney is known as Booktown and is the bookstore capital of Canada. If craft beer is more your thing, Sidney features two great local breweries nearly side-by-side; Small Gods and Beacon Brewing. There are three grocery stores in town (Thriftys, Save on Foods, and Fairway Market), three liquor stores (BCL, Dickens, and Beacon Landing), a fresh fish market on the pier, a specialty cheese shop, and plenty of bakeries and cafes to satiate your every desire.
